We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist focused on Clinical Applications to join our team in Porto. This role sits at the intersection of biomedical science, spectroscopy, and clinical research, supporting the development and validation of iLoF’s technology through experimental work and collaboration with clinical partners.
The successful candidate will contribute to the design and execution of laboratory experiments using blood-derived samples, interpret Raman spectroscopic data, and help translate scientific insights into clinically relevant applications.
This role also involves supporting the setup and execution of clinical studies, including collaboration with hospitals, clinicians, and biobanks.

Job Description
Experimental & Laboratory Work
- Design and perform laboratory experiments using blood-derived biological samples.
- Prepare and process biofluids for spectroscopic analysis.
- Develop and optimise experimental assays and protocols.
- Analyse and interpret spectroscopy and biological signals.
- Investigate the molecular and physical phenomena underlying spectroscopic signatures.
- Design experiments to test hypotheses linking spectral features to disease-related molecular changes.
- Support the development and validation of iLoF’s spectroscopic technology.
- Contribute to the interpretation of biological signals generated by the platform.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, data science, and clinical teams.
- Support the design and setup of clinical studies generating real-world evidence.
- Collaborate with clinical partners, hospitals, and research institutions.
- Assist with ethics submissions and regulatory documentation.
- Coordinate with biobanks and clinical collaborators to support sample access and management.
- Contribute scientific insight to ensure strong clinical applicability of the technology.
Essential
- PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent laboratory experience.
- Experience working with blood-derived biological samples or biofluids.
- Strong understanding of spectroscopy signals (e.g. FTIR and Raman).
- Ability to interpret spectroscopy signals and understand underlying physical/biochemical phenomena.
- Experience designing and conducting laboratory experiments.
- Strong analytical and scientific reasoning skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Experience analysing biofluids using spectroscopy.
- Familiarity with clinical research environments.
- Experience interacting with biobanks or clinical sample repositories.
- Knowledge of spectral data analysis or chemometrics.
- Experience contributing to clinical study setup or translational research.
