At ISPTech, we’re shaping the future of space propulsion. As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge projects that push the boundaries of technology for CubeSats and SmallSats. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to real missions, and learn what it takes to deliver reliable propulsion systems for space applications. Even if no fitting project cluster is available, we’d love to hear from you, in that case submit a general application and tell us how you can contribute.

Responsibilities per project cluster

AIT Internship
  • Support assembly and integration of propulsion systems and related prototypes, qualification units, and flight models.
  • Derive optimal methods for assembling and testing (sub)systems.
  • Create and improve assembly protocols and contribute to process optimization.
  • Assist in developing qualification documents to meet launcher requirements.
  • Participate in pressure, functional, and environmental testing for propulsion system qualification, including preparation, execution, and post-processing.
  • Support the HyNOx SmallSat project.
Propulsion Engineering Internship
  • Design, systems engineering, manufacturing, integration, and testing of propulsion systems for CubeSats and SmallSats.
  • Procurement of components of the propulsion system.
  • Assist with the qualification and acceptance of components for launcher requirements.
  • Help with the assembly and integration of propulsion systems and their corresponding prototypes, qualification, and flight models.
  • Test and characterize aspects of propulsion systems. This includes test preparation, conducting tests, and data analysis. Some of these tests will be conducted in external facilities.
Software Engineering & Propulsion Internship
  • Assist in the architecture, development, and testing of a Python-based system simulation tool for spacecraft propulsion.
  • Develop and integrate mathematical models for spacecraft manoeuvres, delta-v budgets and pre-sizing of propulsion system components.
  • Support the implementation of Graphical User Interface (GUI) features to enhance the usability of internal engineering software.
  • Structure, maintain, and validate comprehensive databases of propulsion hardware components (using JSON/structured data formats)
  • Conduct software verification runs, debug physics models, and analyse simulation data to ensure mathematical accuracy.
Embedded Systems Internship
  • Conduct hardware functionality tests on printed circuit boards, document results, and recommend improvements. Including integrated tests with propulsion systems and thrusters.
  • Assist in harness design, cable assembly, and ensure reliable connections for test benches, prototype systems and flight hardware.
  • Develop and run test cases for firmware, troubleshoot software issues, and validate functionality against requirements.
  • Participate in small-scale PCB layout and design modifications, working with ECAD tools.
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration of hardware and firmware components.

  • Studying aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or a related field
  • Hands-on mentality, not afraid of getting hands dirty and approaching new fields of work
  • Honesty and detail oriented
  • Interest in the space sector and space hardware
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus
  • Experience with CAD tools (e.g. Fusion, NX, Catia, or similar)
  • Ideally: Experience with fluid systems, valves, and mechanical work
  • Ideally: Experience working in a student (rocketry) team

  • An exciting work environment encompassing the whole process from the development, building, and launch of space propulsion systems
  • Flexible working time
  • Combination of working in the office, at home, and on the go
  • Professional skills development through a broad base of responsibilities and freedom
  • Engage directly and actively participate in the end-to-end development processes of an expanding NewSpace start-up
Don’t worry if you don’t meet every single requirement listed. We value potential, motivation, and a willingness to learn just as much as experience. If you’re excited about the role and believe you can contribute, we’d love to hear from you!
