Shape the Face of Cancer Treatment at Luminate Medical

Luminate Medical is on a mission to change the way we experience cancer care. We design and build products which revolutionise the patient experience, by reducing the side effects of cancer treatment. Our first product, Lily, is a wearable medical device to reduce hair loss caused by cancer treatment. Our second product, Lilac, is a is a novel solution for reducing peripheral neuropathy, a debilitating side effect to cancer treatment.

We’re looking for an R&D Technician to become the next key player in our team, as we look to design and develop the Lilac device. You will be an early member on this team, working on design, prototyping and testing – taking advanced and innovative ideas and making them into a physical reality. Working as part of the wider R&D engineering group, you will be the point of contact for prototyping and testing. This is an exciting opportunity to get in at an early stage on a product which has the potential to massively impact cancer treatment.

What You Will Do:

  • As a prototype builder at Luminate, you will drive patient-focused cancer care products from concept to physical reality by:
    • Using benchtop tools and manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing, vacuum forming, heat sealing, soldering and ultrasonic welding to build prototypes to bring R&D concepts to life.
    • Building product for verification testing, validation testing and clinical use as per work instructions.
    • Supporting R&D Engineers, by participating in brainstorming and design reviews, with a focus on design for manufacture and design for assembly inputs.
  • Taking a methodical approach to ensure our products meet the highest standards:
    • Testing prototypes to ensure they function as intended, making changes and working with the Engineering team to constantly iterate and improve the design.
    • Ensuring that test results are documented and communicated effectively.
  • Taking responsibility for the delivery of work package tasks in a timely fashion, by working closely with Senior R&D Team members.

Requirements – The Ideal Candidate Must Have:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; outlook, word and excel.
  • Worked in a team environment, enjoys working towards a common goal.
  • Experience making things and working with their hands.

Advantages – It Would be Advantageous to Have:

  • Experience in the medical device field.
  • A qualification in a technical background.
  • Experience working with rapid prototyping techniques including 3D printing, vacuum forming, heat sealing.
  • Taken on hands-on projects outside of work.
