We are seeking a seasoned Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Specialist to join our multidisciplinary science and catastrophe risk modelling team. As an expert in atmospheric science, physical modelling, and statistical downscaling, you will play a key role in accelerating our business with an environmental impact.
RequirementsYou're an expert who have hone your skills through a Ph.D. degree in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, atmospheric physics and dynamics, or related field, or a master's degree complemented by a long track record of experience. It would be great if you also have experience working with large-scale computing platforms (e.g., cloud or high-performance computers), as well as in the private sector. You're skilled in bias adjustment and statistical downscaling of climate data, and you've demonstrated your expertise in applying statistical analysis, machine learning, data mining, or related techniques to resolve small-scale features from large-scale coarse resolution analyses, forecasts, or simulations.Additionally, integrating climate simulations and model uncertainties into evaluating the impact of future climate projections on weather and atmospheric hazard extremes is something you excel at. Knowledge of severe convective systems and related hazards is a plus.Your love for learning drives you to embrace new and challenging areas. As a team player, you enjoy collaborating and building cool stuff together with your team mates. You appreciate the fast-paced, results-oriented culture of a startup because you're ready to trade dusty papers for applied research that makes a difference in businesses and people's lives. Develop downscaling tools and techniques: you'll contribute to the development of next-generation dynamical and statistical downscaling methodologies for assessing the impact of climate on extreme weather events. You'll also contribute to the study of climate processes and their impact on regional and local weather patterns and extremes, with a focus on extreme weather modelling.
Bring innovative NWP applications to life: you'll also study and help us translate climate processes and their influence on regional and local weather patterns and extremes across different time scales. Last but not least, you'll help us verify and validate model outputs against observational data and collaborate with data scientists to incorporate machine learning and artificial intelligence methods into extreme weather hazard modeling.
Foster partnerships and stay updated with cutting-edge research: You'll be involved in high-profile partnerships that disrupt traditional approaches in insurance, finance, asset management and humanitarian industries. You'll stay abreast of the latest techniques and advancements in peer-reviewed journal articles to enhance our climate and extreme weather modelling capabilities.DiversityA recent study shows that one in every 10 tech workers in Spain are women. Only 8% of all contracts in 2019 with people with disabilities were in technology and science. Meanwhile, 30% of LGTBIQ people in Spain do not come out in the workplace for fear of discrimination. This is neither the world we want to live in nor the workplace we’re building.Mitiga is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
